сокр FLSAУстановил минимальную заработную плату 25 центов в час (с перспективой повышения ее до 40 центов в течение последующих 8 лет) и максимальную продолжительность рабочей недели 44 часа для рабочих, занятых в торговле между штатами [ interstate commerce] и на предприятиях, связанных с ней (в дальнейшем предусматривался постепенный переход на 40-часовую рабочую неделю); обязывал предприятия отдельно оплачивать сверхурочную работу. Запретил использование труда детей, не достигших 16-летнего возраста. Действие закона коснулось более 60 млн. рабочих и служащих. Поправка к Закону о справедливых условиях труда 1938 [ Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938]. Запрещал дискриминацию в оплате труда по признаку пола. Ввел положение, согласно которому мужчины и женщины, работающие в одной организации при одинаковых условиях, должны получать равную зарплату, если их работа требует одинаковых (сходных) усилий, навыков и ответственности. Отчасти заменяет поправку о равных правах [ Equal Rights Amendment] к Конституции, предложенной Конгрессом в 1972 на ратификацию штатам.
